Short Scar Facelift with SMAS

What is the Short Scar Facelift with SMAS?

The Short Scar Facelift is a very popular procedure for patients of any age who want to improve their facial appearance by means of a procedure with significantly shorter scars than the classical facelift. in our practice it has replaced the need for the traditional facelift, which has longer scars and longer recovery time.
Since 2008 Dr Stamatiou at Excel Plastic Surgery, performing this procedure gives his patients a facial rejuvenation with a natural “non-operated” look.

Who are Ideal Candidates?

When your face, and the "age of your face" doesn't properly reflect your personality, you can feel less confident and feel frustrated that you look older than you really are. Your face is an essential part of your identity. If you are tired of having a face that looks worn out, or "droopy", a face lift can be an incredibly beneficial procedure. Face lift surgery is designed to help rejuvenate your facial appearance, turning back the clock to a more youthful look and helping you age more gracefully into the future. However,, a face lift is a surgical procedure that nay to be right for everyone. The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for a face lift is to schedule a face lift consultation with Dr. Stamatiou at Excel Plastic Surgery.

During a personal consultation, your current skin condition and texture will be examined. Some of the factors that will be evaluated are:

skin elasticity bone structure overall health loose skin

The best face lift candidates have realistic expectations about what surgery can accomplish. Although a facelift can have dramatic results, ti should not make you look like someone else. You should look like a younger version of yourself. If you are not a good candidate for a face lift, we offer other facial rejuvenation procedures - such as laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, dermal fillers- that can help improve your appearance.

Age is NOT the most important factor in whether or not you are a face lift candidate. Most patients who undergo facelift surgery are between 40 and 70 years old, but people older than 70 can also benefit from this procedure and occasionally there may be a need even before the age of 40. We will evaluate your medical history and current skin quality to determine what is the proper rejuvenation treatment for you

About the Procedure

With the Classical Face Lift the scars are placed in front of the ear extending into the hairline of the temple and behind the ear extending again into the hairline, thus the normal location of the sideburn is lifted which is unnatural and results in an "operated look".

However when performing the Short Scar Facelift, the scars are placed discretely in front and behind the ear, avoiding their extension into the hairline of the temple maintaining thus the normal position of the side burn. The facial muscles of the cheeks and neck are lifted and tightened to their original location. The excess of skin is then cut out and a meticulous plastic surgery closure is performed on the incisions.

About the Recovery

Routinely the procedure is performed under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation as an outpatient. It is a procedure with a very high patient satisfaction rate in comparison with the scars and result of the classic facelift. Antibiotics, anti inflammatories and occasionally analgesics will be given for 1-2 days. On the first day post operatively the patient will come to Excel for a dressing change and a shampooing of the hair. Additionally possible bruises of the neck are camouflaged with make-up. Occasional swelling and bruising tends to resolve in 8-10 days, stitches will be removed in 7 days. Patients resume their regular daily activities within a week and exercise after 3 weeks.
