Rhinoplasty – Septum

Rhinoplasty is a highly individualized procedure and any changes are adapted to each person’s facial features, as well as to the individual’s personal preferences.

What can we achieve with rhinoplasty?

  • Usually reduction or rarely increase of the nose size
  • Correction of the nasal hump (dorsal bump).
  • Correction of the nasal tip.
  • Correction of nostrils.
  • Improvement of nasal asymmetry.
  • Corrections related to

Previous rhinoplasty

Removal of large nasal cancers

Injuries

Congenital deformities related to cleft lip

From what age can the surgery be performed?

After the nose has fully developed. For boys from the age of 17. For girls two years after the onset of menstruation.

What is the procedure?

Understanding the individual’s desires. Examination of the nose anatomy both externally and internally. Thorough communication with the help of digital photography and before and after photos of similar rhinoplasties, in order to determine whether the realistic result the doctor can offer aligns with the individual’s desires.

The Procedure

In rhinoplasty, two techniques are applied: the “open” and the “closed.” Most of the time, the closed technique provides excellent access for the corrections that need to be made and is preferred over the open technique because the swelling after surgery subsides much faster and there is no external scar on the nose. However, sometimes the open technique is necessary.

Anesthesia and Recovery

The procedure is performed under light general anesthesia. Note that sedation and intravenous anesthesia, which we use in many aesthetic procedures, are not considered safe for rhinoplasty, unless it is only for correction of the nasal tip and nostrils. You return home 2-3 hours after the procedure without any problems (more information under our “ANESTHESIA” title on the homepage). If there are nasal packs with tubes that facilitate breathing inside the nose, these are removed at the office in 1-2 days, and the external aluminum splint, depending on the type of surgery, in 2 or 7 days. You may have bruising under the lower eyelids that subsides in 5-10 days, but it can be easily camouflaged with makeup. Generally, you return to work, school, and your daily routine in one week. With the surgery, breathing becomes easier if there was a pre-existing problem, and snoring often improves.
