What is tummy tuck without drains?
In classic abdominoplasty, drains are used to prevent fluid from accumulating in the space between the skin and the abdominal wall. Drains are plastic tubes that are placed under the skin and exit the body, ending in small reservoirs that the patient empties periodically. Drains are not only uncomfortable, but they are also a potential source of infection. When used, they are kept in place for 2-7 days.
With the new tummy tuck technique without drains, we use special sutures to restrict the space described above. This limits fluid accumulation since this space no longer exists. These sutures are not palpable on the abdomen and also help the incision to close without tension.

What is the advantage?
Recovery is easier, you don’t have to carry the drainage reservoirs, there is no irritation of the skin at the exit points, you have better mobility, and you can shower on the second day after the operation. Dr. Stamatis, a plastic surgeon in Thermi, has been using this technique since 2011 and has found that there is a much lower chance of fluid collection than with tummy tucks that use drains.
